Just listened to this due to the band's reputation and I have to say that it's pure Heavy Metal in my book. I can't possibly imagine how this could fit in with my conception of Doom. Especially the second track has driving uptempo rhythms throughout. Good melodies and vocals, though, I'll give them that.

yeah, I kind of agree; it's slow enough to touch upon the shores of doom metal though.
If you want to try some full epic doom bands, try Forsaken from Malta and the more obvious Solitude Aeternus.

I wasn't too fond of this ep; it's, well, nothing new and a tad boring I must say. I think the same of all Solctice albums mind you.

It's Solitude Aeturnus, isn't it? Anyway, they're an okay band, of course, but nothing I could ever get excited about. But back to Solstice, the third track is the only one which has somewhat slower rhythms and might be considered vaguely doomy if you take the term very broadly...

OF COURSE!

edit:

and two more good bands in the style:

and then, because I'm justing thinking of them right now, this excellent, quite excentric band mixing over-the-top agressive vocals with growls (it's between vicking and epic doom) - it's not the best track from that album, but that's all youtube wants to let your hear:

Nice to hear them get a mention, so here's one from the second Living Fields album. Highly excellent, imho:

I'm with Merch here - to me, those bands all sound the same! Apart from The Living Fields, of course, whom I happen to know (though I don't remember how). The track from their second album sounds really good, indeed, though I don't really see the connection to Solstice and the likes...

Yep, at least the slow sections. Less so the pure Heavy Metal parts - I used the time to go to the toilet. :D
