what's the point of this "review"?

You can blame the editor for requesting it

It was in the last Solitude promo pack, and I gave it just enough of a listen to figure it was one of those albums building on a core of 'Brave Murder Day' influences. Which it does have, in places.

Having listened to it a lot more thoroughly before posting the review, I do actually rather like it - as one of those obscure, enthusiastic and madly eclectic "very Italian" Italian releases - but that's based on my long-standing fondness for madly eclectic Italian bands rather than for any Doom qualities it purportedly possesses. In that, I do agree with Ian: it isn't at all Doom to me, and even for a BMM (rather than Solitude) release, it seems unusually far removed from their usual fare. So I guess the point is that it's a real 'caveat emptor': people may enjoy it, but it's unlikely to be because they're into Doom of any flavour...

It's got a lot more in common with Katatonia or something than Nu Metal. Maybe Ian remembers Nu Metal being better than it was?

Maybe. Though it's hard to imagine what sort of rose-tinted vision would recall Nu-metal as anything other than a seemingly-endless period of musical abomination...

I wouldn't really describe this as Nu-metal, but as someone who did spend a lot of time around the turn of the millennium with MTV UK on (mostly listening with half an ear and wishing something good would come on), I kind of get where Ian's coming from with the breakdowns and tempo changes. Thankfully, these guys don't go anywhere near the obligatory rubbish rap section, or pointless scratch-DJ nonsense that I remember as also being "vital" hallmarks of that period. Like I said, I quite like this, but if I'd listened to it properly earlier, I very much doubt I'd've asked anyone to review it!

I like it too... maybe not much doom in it, but such a negative review is totally pointless, IMO... this is what I meant...

I agree that the review does not really describe the album well, it's rather a short diatribe. On the other hand I also agree that the album is awful and the rating is justified=)
