Well, the change of direction in this album was intended and officially announced, so I cannot really complain. But nevertheless - I'd take any of previous albums over this one - they were much more mournful and affecting.

Here the harsh vocals, the sped-up sections, the symphonic elements and the overall gothic atmosphere creates completely different emotion and I'm not too fond of it.

Most of "Spirits Of The Dead" is very reminiscent of the previous era and stands out with its beautiful slow lead guitars.

The clean vocals are still very nice and idiosyncratic.
