I cannot judge the album as I’m not a fan of this style in general, but I do have a feeling that there could be more exciting trad doom=))

It bores me quite a lot! I don't think it's worthy of Candlemass' best material... But then, I wasn't expecting much either.

It's better than I thought it was going to be. The problem is the unavoidable hype of the 'guy who sang on Epicus...' rejoning the band. Strip that away and you're left with a solid, dependable release of the sort you would expect from them. I do like it, and there's a lot more "Iommi" in the songs than simply the solo he provides. (Dehumanizer came to mind more than once). It's another good Candlemass album, nothing more.

I agree with the Dehumanizer reference. That album was absolutely crushing with Iommi's tone on steroids. The organic, living, breathing Candlemass guitar tone has paralleled the master over the years and it's truly fitting he sat in for a solo. No, it's not their best album, but man, it's hard to beat these guys when it comes to the traditional definition of Doom. It filled a void for me and gave me hope for the future.

Mmh, not really in tune with this. :) Some young bands still keep the flame alive: Khemmis, Famyne are both delivering high-value material - Witchsorrow is to be mentioned too... And then, there're a bunch of veterans who can't be ignored, stuff like Dawn of Winter, Spirit Descent, Sinister Realm, Forsaken, Capilla Ardiente and others...

I do get it. Sure, there's good young bands, and some older keepers of the flame, but I do have a genuine soft spot for Candlemass - so while I agree entirely with this...

...I guess it still carries a certain shine for me that's not entirely due to the hype, and equally not entirely objectively down to the quality of music. Probably just that they were kind of a game-changer for me, musically, back in '86, and there's still something of that rose-tinted vision left even now.

...which is exactly how I feel about 'Nightfall', and why I was all over the eponymous reunion release they did with Marcolin in 2004 or whenever it was, and which I still prefer... :p
