I agree it's pretty unlistenable, which is very disappointing as I was quite excited at the idea at first, it definitely stirs one's curiosity.

I think the biggest issue is that all the covers are really faithful to the originals and their shallowness. If they tried more different interpretations with some scattered melodies that remind of the originals it could be better.

DEOS gives the best track for sure and the only part of the album that is worth hearing, though Somnent and Revelation’s songs are also mildly enjoyable:)

And let’s say it - this would not have happened if they were covering The Cure, hehe:)))

Btw, It’s nice to hear you think a Doom/Pop crossover could work - I also believe that with the right selection it might yield nice and very original results:)))

I'm definitely thinking Toyah could work, if you left out most of the really crappy commercial single releases like 'It's A Mystery', and gave it full beans for something like 'Ieya', 'Angel & Me'. or even 'Good Morning Universe'. And Blondie, likewise ('Detroit 442', '11:59,', 'Atomic'). They both had enough nasty personal and narrative-style stories to tell that I think you could get a Doom-based interpretation to fly. I'd genuinely be interested to see if anyone else agrees with that...

Who? Nevr heard of that artist... I know Latoya Jackson though and la Toyota, too!

David Bowie could work, definitely.

I personally don't get the point of just doing covers, especially of pop music but oh well...

Toyah is a British pop artist, she's also married to Robert Fripp from King Crimson

Personally I don't see the point in doing covers of someone I don't know...! :D Is she really famous?

She was famous for 5 minutes in the late '70s/early '80s... :p

I have no idea... I must say I find the suggestion a bit bizarre... :D

Well, strictly speaking, her 18th album is coming out in April* - but certainly best known early-to-mid '80s. 7 consecutive UK top 40 albums, iirc, so not exactly a one-hit, 5-minute wonder...
* I guess it's probably not on your preorder lists, but it is on mine. You still have time, though :p

Personally, I find the fact of actually releasing a 2CD tribute to Roxette far more bizarre than any hypothetical argument there were contemporary bands which might have better suited for underground Metal interpretation...!
I'm not actually planning to go ahead and prove it right now :rolling:

I'm not being flippant. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good cover version regardless, but with this I genuinely can't figure out who it would overtly appeal to...

Frankly, I never heard of her, you would have expected that kind of pop music to be broadcast by mainstream radios, but it's not the case. I guess this is a typical British phenomenon. Does she have an American audience?

I'll be serious... :) she was famous at the time. She is still playing now. She was mildly "cutting edge" in terms of her attitude, and she was clever, meaning she was never too extreme. I don't mind her, especially because she married my all time hero... :D

I wasn't being flippant either. despite the smiley. That may well be the absolute weirdest album I've ever reviewed, in terms of trying to figure out what the point of it is and who the intended audience are.

It reminds me of a time all those second rate Nu -Metal bands had to have an eighties cover version to gain any kind of notoriety. Pointless.
