I understand better now why this new album shows so little progression against the debut. The composition has been outsourced to the guy of Ennui. Now, it appears to me he tried too hard to stick to the sound of the debut; it's true that it is very idiosyncratic, but in the end, although excellent, the result is more a homage, or the faithful copy of a dedicated fan than an original album. And mybe it should be judged bearing this in mind.
I hope the next step will explore new potentials.

I didn't like it much, to be honest. It's like it's trying just a little bit too hard in all sorts of little ways to be both faithful and add a bit more, and ends up being more of a caricature than a homage. I don't know if I could completely put my finger on why - it just sounds a bit too strident, brassy, maybe self-conscious compared to the original CV. Shame, because on paper it ought to be great.

That's a problem when the leader and self-proclaimed source of the band's legitimacy is only singer; as I understood, A.K. doesn't touch an instrument and seems, from the interview, to rely completely on the skills of others... On this "resurrection album", everything is rather gimmickal, I admit. But I want to see it as a transition to something genuinely original.

He does drums as well, both for the original CV and for Abstract Spirit, but as we all know, you should never let drummers write albums, otherwise you end up with stuff like Cozy Powell, Herman Rarebell and Phil Collins :D
I think maybe it's just that trying to compose 'like Comatose Vigil' is a step too far from Ennui's sound at the moment and that's why it sounds kind of forced and unnatural - he's copied the technical elements, but doesn't quite seem to have the feel for them to fit everything together seamlessly.
I'm pretty hopeful it'll be a transition to somewhere better, though. There's a lot of talent and experience assembled in the band!
