Wonderful review, I pretty much agree with all of it. A great comeback for this band for sure!

I don't agree about the quality of the review at all! I feel the reviewer is a bit too much locked up in his own knowledge of the band and, as a result of this intimacy he's built over the years, he forgets to give details of the band's peculiar sound, of the way the instruments are handled, the kind of vocals and so on... I mean if this band is so hard to get into for many of us, FD fans, if it's still so little known after so many releases there is a reason that a reviewer should try to investigate...
This was the right time to paint an accurate potrait as GS prod is offering MOTD quite an outstanding support with the rerelease of the back catalogue.

Hmm, this makes sense actually. Probably I did not find anything lacking in the description as I'm quite familiar with the band and it all made perfect sense, but for the uninitiated it might be lacking indeed=)

But I agree that a thorough investigation of the band's sound and evolution (if there is any, hehe) through the years would be quite great=)

Have never listened to this band's material. Am I missing something? Does it really offer something unique I haven't listened to, like a 1000 times before?

You are missing only good music=)

The band is not unique, you've heard similar stuff lots of times and on top of that all the albums are remarkably similar.

Still, it is very well crafted, extremely pure and "hardcore" (in the sense that it does not offer anything to alleviate the experience - no catchy riffs, no hooks, not a lot of variation) and it offers wonderful atmosphere. Just like what pure funeral doom should be=)

Something like what Nortt offers?

Well, not exactly, I find Nortt's material to be much richer (at least after the demo period) - it has piano in the foreground, eery melody lines and sometimes even catchy sections=)

Think of it as mix between the UDOM's (lack of) dynamics, Worship's darkness and Hierophant primitivism=)
