I like Zatokrev a lot but I was still a little disappointed when I got halfway through the review and suddenly realised that I wouldn't be able to buy any Zaraza on vinyl. It only dawned when you started banging on about Neurosis and Post Metal...

I only just woke up. Not had any coffee yet...

I like this band too, very little recognition they have...

Well, I think I reviewed their last record as a 9.5 on here. What more recognition can they possibly need? :D

Definite lol at that one!

The bit where you do start banging on about Neurosis is the part of the review I most associate with. I did spend the 90's listening to them and have to admit Zatokrev passed me by until I found this site, and they didn't knock me out too much to begin with but I admired them from the off and have grown to like them very much... 'Silk Spiders...' really got me into them proper... :D

That's a brilliant review=)) I'm especially fond of the vinyl-related musings=)

As for the album - though I love Silk Spiders Underwater... this one is a bit too purely post-metal for me. But admittedly I can only stomach two of the Neurosis albums, so maybe this style is not entirely my cup of tea=)

Which two? Speaking as somebody who pretty much likes them all, even the sub-par hardcore punk one :;):
Through Silver In Blood and Enemy of the Sun would be my 2 to keep if I had to dispose of the others. But I have the boxset so hopefully that could never happen...

But Neurosis at it's best is music of Anger, and music of Anger is not slow, so I can see it would not be to your tastes :rolling:

I vote for the duet A Sun That Never Sets/ The Eye of Every Storm.
These are Neurosis at their best for me, navigating on the edge of dark gulfs, bitterly abrasive, drawing poignant post-apocalyptic soundscapes.

Valid choices, but they don't work as well when you are fucking pissed off and need something to play angry guitar along to. I also keep one of my copies of Through Silver In Blood in the car at all times. It gets me so pumped up I use it instead of caffeine when I have to drive long into the night. Also, Motorheads Overkill.

I should mention that I was 16 and a very angry youth when I first discovered them. And Through Silver In Blood was the album I first heard. But I like The Eye of Every Storm a hell of a lot too. Its so stripped back and pure. I consider it their 'Animals'. I also lost my virginity to this record.

Hella cool - I'm amazed you could concentrate enough to, er, do the deed, as it were! I try absolutely never to mix music and sex...it gets horribly complicated which needs more attention very quickly... :D

Cheers, mate! Just telling it like I see it, but I'm glad it strikes home with someone!

Times of Grace and Given to the Rising...if I had to choose...

I dunno - is it fence-sitting if I say 'Through Silver In Blood' and 'Times Of Grace'? It seems a bit like retro cherry-picking, though - like I said - I really didn't pick up on them at the time, so I don't have much option except to do that! But those are two seriously amazing back-to-back albums for any band to have released...

Listening to it on YouTube... not bad musically, not sure about the guy's voice... :p

EDIT: bloody hell... this is dragging a lot! Can't stand the slow bits with the guy whinging about something... :)
