Post Re: Procession - "Doom Decimation"

I've given a close listen to this album, and I followed right after with Forsaken's latest. In the end, the Maltese band wins the game, and with a good edge over the Chilean. If not for the clumsy production that gives the album a rather irregular coating, Forsaken's Pentateuch showcases a talent for bombast, enthralling soundscapes and an overall, never disproved inventivity that Processioan still have to work on.
Now, Procession's sound and ambition gear more towards the sinister, which is a good thing, but it lacks a bit of magic...

I'd probably give the edge to Forsaken vocal-wise, but I wasn't very impressed with the quite treble-oriented production. To my ears, Procession have a way better and more consistent percussion section backing up their sound. I wouldn't want an actual fistfight over it, or anything like that, but that's certainly my personal take on the subject... :D
I do agree that Procession're more looking for a dark and sinister sound, but imo, they pretty much nailed that!

If only all songs on the album would resemble 'Amidst The Bowels Of Earth' or 'As They Reached The Womb", it'd be a masterpiece. But with track like Democide, it's a long shot. They do have some shortcomings to correct in the songwriting, I feel. On the other hand, their production is indeed much more sensible than Forsaken's.

edit: Doom Decimation is definitely, as you state it in your review, the band's best album to date though. :;):

I guess I still prefer To Reap Heavens Apart. I don't know why but Felipe's voice bores me after some time....
Anyway, great album! Amidst The Bowels Of Earth is amazing.
