Actually I really love the demo, "Eyes Of Darkness" is indeed a masterpiece, but "Scarred" for example is not so much behind quality-wise.

Another point is that it's so different from later albums. I do not view it as an inferior version of later releases but quite the opposite - there are elements that can be found only here, a side of the band that is preserved only here - it's wonderfully raw and stripped down and the guitar is almost always amazing. Fast parts suck, but fast parts always suck imo=)))

I wasn't aware of that demo. It sounds very good indeed! More primitive and putrid, still with some little psychedelic touches; you still have that reverb effect, but it's not being overused like now on their more recent releases... It's more structured and I like it better that way in fact!

Yes, I also feel that since they didn't have that much equipment, they had to work harder to make the guitar carry most of the psychedelic heavy lifting which yielded some unique results=)

edit: but i don't think they overuse it now=)

I like Esoteric, so i'm sure it's good and i'll check it out, but all I could think of was this running through my head when I saw that it was the demo.

I got a physical copy yesterday and it is beautiful. We've added an extra note to the review to reflect this. They went all out on making this a worthwhile re-release and its great.

Possibly... :) I can't get excited about the demos... ok, they are demos and they show promise, but that's where it ends... to be honest, I always found Esoteric's music massively hit and miss...

My issue with Esoteric is that I can't tell the "songs" apart, they do their stuff, and you know what you'll get: always the same.
That's certainly why I'm seduced by this demo; it's more structured, it has more grit.

yes, I agree... there's obviously logic in their madness... :D The madness is less apparent in the last couple of albums... I must confess the only one I can listen to is The Maniacal Vale...

My 5 cents into discussion.

This was a long awaited release for me personally. I remember checking discogs for physical versions and was stunned by prices. I believe it is even hard to prove that those tapes there are even original...

Anyway, in general I would say that I prefer early Esoteric works more over new ones (they are great too), I just have a warmer feelings to rough death metal recordings of the past - maybe that's the case.
I'm really glad this release is finally happening, as material there is still valid, conceptual and not even closely beaten by any since-existed band I know.

Waiting for my copy.

Sidenote: oh how I wish old Esoteric albums (incl. demo) to be published on Spotify!

It really figures. I spent ages tracking down the tape. Found it. Love it. They the bands says "Lets' re-release it, huzzah!" I ordered mine the day I stumbled upon it on their site.
