Really great album, so glad they changed the formula with such success, it sounds fresh and exciting!

This is a great twist in their discography. I'd go as far as to say MB is THE most interesting death doom band of all the "old" bands active in genre for as long as they are.... (is this clear?)

Process of Guilt have almost touched that sound but they've eventually been swallowed by the seduction of sludge.

I was really disappointed though by Old Season. I'd hoped for a lot more with a signer/guitarist like Brennan.

Post Re: Mourning Beloveth - "Rust & Bone"

In all truth, from the get-go, MB have never grabbed my attention. From their debut to everything by them I have ever heard, it all sounded so generic and unappealing.
Today you need not look too far to find a handful of doom/death bands that are easily much, much better than MB, and eons more interesting (does this even make a sense? I like the hyperbole, though): My Shameful, Mare Infinitum, Doomed are only three bands mentioned in a sea of bands who create music that's much more appealing/interesting/original/powerful than everything ever produced by MB...
It's interesting how they managed to make such a big name of themselves, given their average song writing and lack of inspiration...

This isn't supposed to be a comment on MB who I have not given that much attention to... But generally it's often the case that people will flock to the middle of the road option whilst more adventurous ones are overlooked. This occurs in all forms of music.

Well, this door runs both ways - just as kris's words are certainly true, the opposite is also quite common - "adventurous" bands with little skills or depth in sound gather much attention while hardworking bands who do not depend on novelty points or shock value are overlooked.

MB deserve their name because of their abilility to always release perfectly solid albums. Not having a weak album is ones 20+ year discography is no small feat in my opinion.

All the rest is pretty subjective. For example I find Mare Infinitum or Doomed boring and unoriginal, but so what, you cannot say this band doesn't deserve the praise it gets because of this other band.

My only issue with MB was that they didn't deviate much from their original sound - all perfect albums but it was difficult to choose one over the other. With the new album they fixed this and breathed freshed air into their formula=)

Since I now have an easier way to do this... I'm gonna post Bandcamp players for these threads as and when I remember...
