Post Does Youtube have a Video portal Competitor at all?ß

Hi guys :) Hope you are all well. Well, i know that youtube comes first place in terms of being a video portal, but are there other video portals out there that have features like Youtube?. Has anyone of you ever used another video portal. I thought it would be interesting to find out your experiences. :cheeky:

Vimeo is good, if you're a video producer/creator, and there's also facebook videos, now yahoo launches one as well, plus, lagging-behind, veoh, viddler and blip, but I doubt youtube will ever feel any competition...

why you ask? :)

I guess you are in a way right, Youtube is without a doubt the leader of the game. I was recently reading about Dailymotion, its from France. Its growing at a pretty fast rate with approximately 300 million users. You can have an hour of talk time for your video, and a 1080 HD resolution..which in my opinion sounds like a pretty good deal! :) I was thinking of starting a channel, a few years back, i had a channel on Youtube but my commitment levels to it were quite low, plus i did not really know what to specialise in. I asked this because i was thinking of starting something again, but on a different portal this time.

unless you're a serious movie maker (in which case Vimeo is great), I wouldn't venture outside youtube... facebook videos aside, it's still the norm, where people go to watch anything from short films to fan-made music videos... but do let us know if you "start something again" :)

Yes, when i do i will share. But i am still looking at the alternatives out there, even when i know that YouTube remains the king of the jungle, it would still be nice to find out what exists out there. I agree Facebook videos are becoming quite popular. I guess they offer a short time limit when it comes to recording but most of them are without a doubt very entertaining!

Hi Abigali. Well i actually decided to try out Vimeo, which was your suggestion. Another friend suggested that i check out Flickr. Just uploaded a video on both portals, lets see how that goes!. So anyway during my quest in finding alternatives. I stumbled upon this article which summarises the other alternatives in a pretty much simple way. Apparently Flickr has 122 million users. Quite interesting i must say!

Vevo comes quite recommended if you're a musician, it's more like a video version of Bandcamp than anything. Downside is it's cheap rather than free.

Flickr's much better for photos than videos - don't know if it's still in place, but they used to have a maximum limit of somewhere around 3 minutes.
