I tune from B to E(7 string standard), and I use a .012-.070 set for it. I will never, ever use a thinner string for the low B again. Most standard sevenstring sets are way too thin, at least if you like to pick hard.

I play in a couple of different bands/projects and only have one decent guitar so I bounce around different tunings a lot!
Lowest I go is C standard, a bit of drop C# and drop D, play a fair bit in D standard and E standard.
Stick with Rotosound Blues (10-52) for all tunings. Handles everything well and holds tune on my ESP LTD AX-400.

13-1
17-2
26-3
34-4
46-5
64-6
68-7
6 semitones downtuned ibanez universe, next week ill visit my gtr-tech and he chances tune to usual E,A and so on.
Reason for normal tune is 7th string allows to play 6 semis down if needed( playing from 7th needs practice as if you play fex chord "A# flat triad 5" from 3 fret of 7th string chord shape is completely different and also sound is different-scales are different too), as with this tuning set-up 7th string has no use as frets 1-3 goes close to infrasound .Also with normal tuning gtr works better as gtrs are not designed for huge downtune, if you want downtuned gtr buy baritone-gtr its more stable than gtr's.

Strings doesnt matter i use ernies and sometimes dad's and replace new strings every 4-7 days..( i play 4-8hrs/day and usually 3rd day string start to lose their sound..

Downtuned gtrs has probs especially 6-string Jacksons.
-Jacksons are very sensitive for humidity changes but luckily theres lem-oil use it fex once/moth to avoid broken fretboard, etc humidity related probs (common prob in Jackson and also other cheap floyd rose gtrs)

i play in drop G# with .12-.56 gauge strings on my old Kramer.
I get pretty good clarity on it which is astounding.

I play in A or C with D'Addario Flat wounds, 13-58, wound 4th.
It gives the whole sound a strange, synth like quality. It's good.

Really? I can't imagine that would have any kind of tension at all! I use the same gauge for B standard, and people who have tried my guitar complain that mine aren't tight enough!

Currently I have Elixir Baritones .012-.068 with the g .022 switched to wounded .024. Works fine with Dropped A tuning.
The coating just seemed to peel off quite quickly from the .068 string at fret points. Due to heavy doom riffage of course :p
