Post Quercus "Heart With Bread"

SP. 115-16 Quercus – Heart With Bread

Image

Format: CD
Release Date: 25.04.2016
Country: Czech Republic
Genre: Funeral Doom
Label: Solitude Productions / Moscow Funeral League.

The brand new album by Quercus has become a new milestone in the discography of the Czech band. Developing the ideas of the avant-garde funeral doom metal «Heart With Bread» amazes by the depth of the church organ sound. Musicians, addressing the nature and the organ, are trying to combine these two accurately elaborated mechanisms into a unified concept, a single organism. In the temple we find the nature, in nature we find the temple: they are in a symphonic harmony. Another research area of the musicians covers melancholy, pain and sorrow of no return. And it is not surprising that the album features the cover version of the composition by the famous contemporary Estonian composer Arvo Pärt, who has disclosed the intertwining of the spiritual lines in his avant-garde music.

Tracklist:
1.A Canticle For The Pipe Organ
2.Illegible Tree Name
3.Bread And Locomotive
4.Silvery Morning
5.My Heart’s In The Highlands

This band always failed to convince me... Maybe this new album got rid of their stodgy extravaganza, part of it, at least!... I'll have a listen.

edit: ok, now I'm impressed; this is some excellent stuff this time!

This is what I'd liked the latest Skepticism would have sounded like... and that is a big compliment.

Yey, exciting and unexpected news. I cannot wait to listen to it, as I've always liked them a lot!

But the new logo definitely grabs my attention at first glance - maybe a conscious effort to position themselves in the Thergothon / Evoken line?

I'd describe it as a mix between Skepticism and Nightly Gale, which is perfect!

I like some tracks more than others... a bit patchy, IMO...

mmh, I don't quite feel that, but if so, it's still far less patchy than anything they've put out previously.

Yeah, the first track off of this and that new Hell light have been taking up most of my day. Good stuff.

yes, it's... different. This latest album is far more mature and relaxed.

Hm, I'm still not certain about this album... so far I can say that I definitely like the previous one better, but it probably needs more spins.

As for the posted song - it's still one of my favourites from this band, and the cat vocals are a brilliant idea and surpringly work well within the song (for me) which is quite a feat=)))

yes, and it's used to good effect, not as a gimmick, it brings about lots of atmosphere, doesn't cover the music up either... it's not too invasive like in Skepticism's latest two efforts. This is a brillant example of how almost religious, in the sense of an intense spiritual meditation, FD can sound.

You mentioning "Nightly Gale" made me check them out immediately!
Thanks!
