Post Loss - Horizonless

Here is the first "teaser" for the Loss upcoming album (out in spring)

For me this is a heavily overrated band - they released a nice EP a thousand years ago, then re-released that a thousand times in different formats, but I'll be curious about what they'll come up with this time.

You made my day, mate: I think the exact same about that band and I keep repeating it whenever I get the chance to.

They've brought nothing new to the table, it's so listless, unsubstantial... People wank a lot over that band, making of their little ep an "underground gem" when, basically, it's all very pedestrian. There's like a false myth there.

A band like Profetus, alas, have taken the same uninspired direction...

Pedestrian for sure, but listenable in the form of a 20-minute EP.

The full-length, on the other hand is very hard to get through. And the annoying part is that they used the same EP and another very old song for a full-length that was 5-6 years in the making and that somehow did not hurt their reputation of some kind of "doom masters".

For what's it worth though - I remember I was pleasantly surprised by their track in the Four Burials compilation...

Still, I'll give them a benefit of the doubt, hopefully they won't just blindly accept the hype they receive and continue to create stuff as usual (the latest split track was exactly this...)

I remember one of the band members had posted here the picture of the cover of the rerelease of "4 burials" depicting , what a surprise, a graveyard, with the mandatory mourning statue. the guy was very happy with it as he found the nice and original drawing of the first edition to be so lame....

Well, their taste for art reflects in their music.

Listenig to it now, And I can't really agree. It is boring and not that well composed imo:

Hmm... I'm among those that really loved the EP back in the day. Sure, it's nothing fresh stylistically, but it's very well composed. However, I agree that the full-length re-used a little too much of their previous material, and although I did enjoy it a lot and gave it a very positive review, it didn't really stand the test of time too well. This being said, I'm still curious to hear their new album. That teaser above is really pointless, though...

Not sure about all this "hostility" towards them... pleasant enough, albeit rather derivative, and not a lot worse than many other overrated bands... personally, I find them boring, but I'm not slating them... :D

My "hostility" is more about the "scene" that keeps supporting their "kvlt" status, which effectively deprives the band of an incentive to try and put out something new and original.

Their EP, in the time and context when it came out got deserved attention. But since then they've failed to create anything better - it's all more or less the same.

So if they need some hostility in order to get back to earth again, realize that what they are doing is not remotely deserving of the status they have and release a groundbreaking album - then so be it=))))

The whole album is available for streaming. Although it's better and more interesting than Despond, I'm still not impressed=/

Post Re: Loss - Horizonless

I kinda liked 'Despond', it had some cool melodies that felt almost blues-like on top of crawling funeral doom riffing. And there were those growls that were so low and deep that, depending on the mood you were in at the moment, could sound either soul-crushing or plain ridiculous. Never heard the EP and didn't know about any hype around them, so they're quite OK in my book, the only problem with that album was that it felt a bit too long.
I've listened to 'Horizonless' a few times, but don't have an opinion about it yet, need to listen some more and pay more attention to the music - so far it sounded like a better-produced continuation of their debut, so... not bad, I guess.

I've always quite liked them. Raw, yet lethargic. Melodic, yet abrasive. Droney, yet still has some epic aspects to the sound. They're not one of my favorite bands, but I think they're pretty decent. I would love to see them live, I bet they put on a great show.

I liked the EP just fine but found 'Despond' rather bland. I have just listened to it 2 or 3 times and it was always arduous to get to the end. I'm still willing to give the new one a chance though, which is what I'm doing right now. I love the cover art.

I have to say that, as a fan of 'Despond', I was utterly unimpressed by the new album. There wasn't a single song or riff that caught my attention. It seemed quite different stylistically, too; sludgier somehow, and completely devoid of the cheerless melancholy that was so typical of their earlier material.
