 Your last great music kick.
What band/album blew you away recently. A stuff you just stumbled across without even guessing what you were about to find out and then, boom, you fell in love with it..?
I must say, The Prophecy/ Salvation has been such a great surprise for me and it made me want to discover their other albums. Same with Worm Ouroboros. Such a fine band.

Re: Your last great music kick.
The previous two The Prophecy albums are excellent, as well. The first one is a bit so-so, it's more orthodox British Death Doom heavily influenced by MDB, still more than solid, but not very personal I daresay.
For me the most surprising and great surprise was the last album "Endessiah" by the French Dark Ambient project Treha Sektori (whatever that's supposed to mean). I listened to two tracks to get an idea and was so blown away by it that I ordered it right away - something that almost never happens. Great stuff, even crushing for Ambient standards. Especially the last track is simply incredible.

Although a fine piece of music, I've already got bored with that... I think it's the voice which is putting me off.

Re: Your last great music kick.
Well, it seems you are really allergic to clean vocals. Sometimes, I can't see where exactly you draw the line. For example between The Prophecy and Wolverine...
Would be good also if everybody mentioning a band could post a link. I admit I'm the first not to do it.

Re: Your last great music kick.
There are a couple factors: singing in tune (something that most doom vocalists don't seem to be able to do), quality and intonation of voice. Now, the Prophecy's singer is absolutely in tune and can sing, no doubt about that, but it's his actual voice I dislike a bit, maybe because of the tremolo - if you know what I mean. The Wolverine's singer is just on another planet... As far as videos are concerned, there's only a preview one, with bits of songs, of the new Agrypnie's so there is no point in posting it here.

In fact, you don't like male singers who sound like girls! You need a clear distinction of gender. It must denote a form of sexual insecurity...

Really? I downloaded it, and I must say I can't see what can be so great in it that you see it as an epiphany. I think the flow is completely tottering in here, in has an awkward structure that lets me completly outside. I hate the voice too which sound like a little boy trying to sound mean. meh.

Re: Your last great music kick.
Epiphany? The title of the thread is "Your last great music kick". I got a great music kick out of it. Maybe you should change the title if that's what you meant? And it hasn't got an awkward structure... I don't know what you mean by that. I think it's probably too melodic, and not raw, distorted or complex enough for you. And let's not start talking about voices...

Re: Your last great music kick.
Mmh, maybe the title isn't as appropriate as it should be; but when I say "What band/album blew you away recently. A stuff you just stumbled across without even guessing what you were about to find out and then, boom, you fell in love with it..?"
I guess you can translate it by "what is your last music epiphany...?"
About what I perceive as awkward, it's about the flow not being natural; I don't know how to express it, but it fails to absorb me. Maybe it's just the production....?

Re: Your last great music kick.
It's strange you find it awkward... it's just a straightforward melodic/progressive semi-BM album, with acoustic and ambient stuff here and there... well, you just didn't like it. As far as the title of the thread is concerned, nothing really blows me away these days... I bet you really liked the new Mourning Beloveth... I found it incredibly boring, but not as bad as Mournful Congregation....

Re: Your last great music kick.
Last one is slightly more bearable, but generally I find them soporific...

Monads of Creation is one of the best Funeral Doom albums...

Re: Your last great music kick.
I can only say that, objectively, they are good albums, but, subjectively, I find them boring as hell.... weeping guitar, drums - bang bang, growl.... and repeat, ad infinitum.

Re: Your last great music kick.
I got a very cheap sealed copy at Amazon Marketplace, but you can also get it directly at Cyclic Law - their shop is very reliable and not too expensive. Great Ambient label anyway, the guitarist of Longing for Dawn is behind it, his project Visions is also recommendable.
