I like to read in music, and after a week of The Moors - creators of one wonderful one-shot album - I tried and played Estatic Fear's A Somber Dance. Its medieval feel supported by top-notch talents makes it a masterpiece.

Post Re: To what listenest thou?

The Empress album is actually quite astounding, a great find=)))

Recent stuff:

Прип'ять - Tума́н - an outstanding album

Frowning - Death Requiem - masterful funeral doom done by the book but very effective, this project gets better with every release

Dim Dust - Valley of Deception - very nice fast paced and relatively light instrumental doom with amazing violin that isn't boring

Eurynome - Obsequies - weird funeral doom with only bass and no guitars. Somewhere between Bell Witch for the warm bass driven sound and Cult of Herodias for the general aesthetic plus a male and female duo of musicions. The violin is a great addition to the sound that makes up for the lack of guitars. Weirdly it also remind me a bit of Rostau with the nice super drawn out riffs that have a somewhat cheap feel =)

〇 - Entity - I was very impressed by the bands first demo and while this is good and there is no much progression from before, somehow it does not feel as special - the tempo has gotten even faster with more obvious black metal elements while the sludgy feel is less and it can get quite chaotic. Still worth the listen for sure, as its nihilism can be charming=)

Well, nothing new here and it bores me after 10 minutes.

epic doom album done right; Thronehammer are back with a sophomore in 2021!

And Celestial Season's return holds all its promises; it's very vintage-sounding, very gothic and very good!

Thou & Emma Ruth Rundle collaboration - Thou prove once again they are masters in collaborations (and that this type of releases are much more interesting than their standalone ones=). Instead of using the usual cheap collaboration methods - just alternating the two artist styles - most of the times they meet in the middle and create a quite unique sound that is quite thrilling and twisted:

FUNERIS 2020 release.

pretty much every album by this band is some very academic, by-the-book melodic FD, but so well done it could serve as an examplary introduction to the genre.

Problem is that it never offers anything outside this very conventional frame.

Red Moon Architect - Emptiness Weighs The Most - well their new album is nothing like the previous one, apparently its utterly slow and claustrophobic nature was really a one-off in the discography. This is run of the mill melodic doom again and even the wonderful female vocalist cannot save it=)

The 2020 album of Funeris. This is his best, no doubt.

After that, I'll try Pallbearer - Forgotten Days.

Damn is this good! Female-fronted groovy stoner doom. I knew and appreciate their latest, but this previous effort is equally good.
