I've always like these kind of subterranean, lovecraftian growls. they bring about a otherworldly feel.

But what here really shines is the musicianship and overall songwriting; just outstanding!

I wouldn't call them "gurgling"... but I know what you mean. Anyway, the chap got in touch thanking me after I bought his album on bandcamp (I paid some money for it)... nice touch!

He sent me a thank you mail, too. First time that happened. Made me feel guilty for paying just a measly buck. I'm delighted to see that there are quite a bunch of comments for a newcomer's release on BC. We may be a minority in the metal scene but we can be somewhat vocal and not lazy. At times.

I'm listening to this aggressive stuff. Dual vocals in Russian. They sound a bit like Drudkh and drive the point home. It's sludgy fun:

Ad Nihil - Сон Разума Рождает Чудовищ

NYP as well.

I love the voice of this woman. One of the very few in this register that I can stand. It has a broken accent, something "warped" and tragic, that comes from the throat.

Endearing and somewhat over-romantic Gothic metal from Saint Petersburg... clean and harsh vocals and violin... takes a few listen to get into it... but it's much better that their last albums...

I'd rather listen to old Amber Asylum like "Garden of love" than any gothic-doom. At least metal doesn't get in the way of rampant romanticism.

I finished listening to this folk death/doom band from Latvia. It was quite good but there's room for doomy improvement.

Druun - Veļu laiks

There are some bagpipes (End of public service announcement).

Funeral doom from Iran, total support to this scene, and this album is good on top of it:

Enjoyable melo doomy death band here; but alas also very forgettable like the vast majority of stuff coming out of this quite worn-out mould.

https://marianasrest.bandcamp.com/album/ruins

'Omega' is the best track off this second album imo, if you want to make you an idea...

ILL OMEN - Æ.Thy.Rift

Black/Doom. A pity this is so badly produced. Sounds like a concert in an adjacent room.

Just saw this: Mono with female vocals

MONO & A.A.Williams - Exit in Darkness

ETERNAL STORM /Come The Tide

Yet another one.. melo doomy death. Curious how enjoyable this can be, and yet mediocre.

This is quite nice, yes=) Reminds me of the other Iranian project that does something quite similar in its languid feeling=)

Mono is great and this is quite a weird release for them=)

As for Ill Omen's album I find the production perfectly adequate for the type of music, this type of black/doom has almost always had a slightly muffled sound which works quite good imo=)

Sadly Ill Omen changed back to black metal soon afterwards and then disbanded altogether. Since the same guy is behind the also disbanded but excellent Funeral Mourning and he has no solo project currently active I wonder if he will come up with something similar soon...

I listened to this today:

Interloch - Distance | Collapsed
Mournful Congregation - The book of kings
Christmass - Vigil

... and I'm currently scratching my head about these silencer-esque vocals :D :

Thanks! I'll look into Funeral Mourning next.

I'm not used to this kind of production. When a funeral doom band sounds like that we call it "bedroom funeral doom". Black metal does not sound very heavy to me in the first place. This makes it even worse.

The Body & Thou - You, Whom i Have Always Hated

edit: I've just risked my sanity by watching the first minutes of the uncensored video of Ataraxie's résignés promoted on our FB page.. Just can't stomach this!

Oh, these vocals are truly abysmal indeed, they remind a bit of the project Stalaggh, who allegedly used real asylum patients as vocalists for their otherwise nice noise albums.

Well, "bedroom funeral doom" actually produced some real gems among all the garbage. But I tend to put atmosphere before technical abilities or crushing heaviness, so I do not mind bad production at all, on the contrary sometimes it works to its advantage=)

As for Funeral Mourning - only their early stuff resembles Ill Omen's album, while later albums are very very slow pure funeral doom. Others in the vein of "Æ.Thy.Rift" are Abysmall Sorrow, The Austrasian Goat ("Piano and Stump"), Carma, early Spüolus, Wry, but you might have the same problem with the production (which is weird btw, as you tend to listen to quite extreme and weird stuff=))
