You probably mean Hell - Hell, right (M.S.W. is the guy behind the project). What do you think about this? I was quite impressed by this band years ago, but this week I re-listened three of the vinyls I have by them (Hell III, and the splits with Mizmur and Amarok) and was kind of disappointed, they did not age too well for me. Hell III is ok-ish, but in both splits the other band clearly outshined them....

Honestly, I think it's totally unmemorable. I have Hell1 on a cdr; I like it, maybe more than Hell2 but that's about it, it's nondescript, rather conventional-sounding. In fact, it's pleasant, which is kind of an insult, considering the style, no? :D

The moniker seems to have changed, now it's called by the guy's name.

Chapel of Disease/ ...and as We Have Seen the Storm, We Have Embraced the Eye

stoner-ish blackened death metal; quite fun, punchy as hell!

Visceral Evisceration - Incessant Desire for Palatable Flesh

This is one of the best albums I've ever heard. Someone on here once said they were very Paradise Lost esq and I completely agree, but they had a better drummer than PL and PL had a better lead guitarist than VE. I agree, except I'd say while VE's lead guitarist wasn't great he fit the music perfectly. This band should've made more albums. This is just awesome!

Baphomet, I'm curious: what's your stereo set like? I mean, you're obviously a CDs guy, and listen to music a lot. I see you also listen to bandcamp albums. Do you burn them on CDrs and play them on your stereo system or listen to them via a computer? Do you have a proper hi-fi system and what is it like? Can you get into details about your system, brands, models, old, new and such? Thanks.

You're really interested in this?
My hifi system, I was drawn to it by its price, basically; it's a second-hand (third-hand most probably) Marrantz 1070 amplifier, a second-hand Sony scd xe 800 Cd player and two huge second-hand JBL speakers.
The stuff I download, I stock them in my computer and listen to them either through two cheap, but satifying, Logitech speakers, or rather on a MP3 walkman that I have with me everytime I leave my place. The idea is to spare some room, and therefore, I don't brun any more CDRs, I already have too many of them!

Post Re: To what listenest thou?

Funnily enough I have almost the same amplifier (mine comes with a radio tuner) but it's not in use. How is the sound? Are you satisfied? I use my old NAD 3020i amplifier that's going to celebrate its 27th or 28th birthday. I keep that Maranatz in standby in case my NAD ends its life suddenly. I recently received 2nd hand JAMO standing speakers. Does your old Maranatz amp handle the JBL speakers adequately? And what happens when your CD player dies on you? It's really hard to find nowadays a decent digital player that's dedicated to CDs exclusively (i.e. for musical purposes). All I see are DVD versatile players. I wonder, is there any difference in sound quality between a DVD and a CD player? After all, digital bits are digital bits.

Sorry for hijacking the thread and being completely off-topic, but at least it is music-oriented, so apologies in advance.

Just to indulge you with the now-playing topic, here's mine:
In the car: Cradle of Filth - Hammer of the Witches. It's OK. Slightly experimental CoF.
At work: Ill Omen - Ae. Thy. Rift. Now, the Metal Archives will tell you that's black metal, but this album specifically is one of the bleakest, mot surreal, depressing and beautiful black/doom of the highest caliber. I sincerely think it should be incorporated into the doom-metal.com band list for that album alone.

Fuck yeah there is! That Cd player I bought last year from a hifi maniac who buttonholed me for two hours has nothing to do with the Philips DVD player I had. It costs me 70€ when it was worth 280€ new, so it's what you call a rather cheap player, but it's already another world, really, much more refined, precise and rich. It's a 10-year-old model, I think... When it dies, well, I'll hunt down something similar I guess!

You actually felt a considerable difference in sound quality using a CD player instead of a DVD (when all other components remain the same)?
And that old Marantz amp holds the sound well using those macho-man JBL speakers? Both in low and high volumes?

The Marantz is good with the middle register, not so much with the higher tones; it's basiccaly very recommended for metal and jazz, the sound is round and warm; the JBL speakers tend to enhance even more this advantage to the lower scale. The Sony player brings a bit of accuracy and brillance and restore a kind of balance, so to speak. The JBL are not the best choice with this marranz, but they do the job and I don't want to sharpen my ear too much, 'cause you're bound to spend a damn lot of cash in an endless quest for 'the perfect sound'.

If it sound good to you, that's all that matters. Thanks for the info, my friend. Not a vinyl fan, are you? You're a more practical person, are you not?

I have an old Rega Planer 2 record player, old Marantz CD player, old Cyrus amplifier and old Monitor Audio speakers... everything still sounds fantastic...

I do have some vinyl, but it's too much of a fuss to play them...

to the topic:

This female-fronted doom band is almost there, but not quite yet. Some moments touch perfection though, delivering sheer spiritual energy, just check out 'Moriah':
