Thee Maldoror and The Kovenant are completely different in so many ways than Illud; you're mixing apples and oranges...

Never said they did same thing. Just an example of crossovers well made.
Illud suxx.

Where's the "crossover" in Illud? Oh, the intro? A couple of hardly noticeable electronica parts? What? What exactly did they mix with what? Please enlighten me, because I'm in the dark here...

You call that drum machine and the riffage on Too Extreme "hardly noticeable"?
What about "I am morbid" and "Destructors vs the Earth"? Not an attempt at crossing over to Genitorturers? While Radikult is practically Genitorturers.
So what we end up with? A shit mishmash of tracks that just don't hold together: half of tracks are usual MA, third - failed crossovers, and rest - Genitorturers track and intro.

You read too many Metal Archives reviews of that album instead of making your own mind about it.
How many times have you listened to the album? Like half a time? This album is more interesting than what they have done since the year 2000. It's bold and only slightly adventurous, it's heavy and upbeat and FUN. It's like Avulsed's CyberGore or Fear Factory's ReManufacture, but much more traditional than those two, and it's a unique album with a unique sound and sheer, heavy power and pristine production. The pure death metal tracks however, I find a tad too simplistic and linear (in opposition to what MA are known for) but that's really the only complain I have about Illud...

But they are certainly also a band to recommend to VesicaP23 who's on an experimental metal spree. ;)

Yes, I'm quite inundated with stuff to listen to. Particularly enjoying some of the BM stuff that Wyrd recommended, but will take a while to get round to all of the suggestions... :headbanghair:

Going back to the Illud... debacle. Would it have made any difference if it had been released by another band? I'm quite happy to admit that some of my initial disappointment was because it was not what I expected from MA, and I think that's only natural given that I'd been listening to them since Altars came out. However, being as I'm not forteen anymore I gave it due care and attention but still found it lacking.

Totally incoherent is a much more correct description. I fail to see how anyone can disagree.

wyrd wrote:

Definitely not. Is ReManufacture a half Demanufacture, third remixes and a couple of completely poprock tracks? Not at all.
ReManufacture is consistent within itself.

wyrd wrote:

Definitely not. Half of the tracks are typical death metal. Couple are Genitorturers. And rest is failed inbetween. Could be unique in 1993, but now - absolutely not.

wyrd wrote:

Exactly. And that's the better half of the album.

I think I've said enough about that album. Guess we're just going to stay at our own positions regarding it.

I have mixed feelings toward this project. This is a bit too baroque and diverse... Some tracks sound like plain RevBiz, others like weirdo jam sessions for Revbiz albums that eventually - fortunately- never get to an actual completion, other like obscure individualistic experiments that are almost embarrasing to listen to. In the end, you're left with a mish-mash of impressions and nothing stands out. And you think for your self: wow, that was something! and then completely forget about it as nothing really grabbed you.

That being said, seeing how unbalanced the last two Rev Biz albums were, I wouldn't wish for a come-back either.

This is very true of Droner. Taste My Sword was a bit easier to digest than this one.

New (DOLCH) - "III : Songs of Happiness...Words of Praise" - a bit of a let down, moreso because of high expectations (I loved the I/II compilation), as the album is still quite enjoyable...
