Post Re: To what listenest thou?

A longtime friend got married in a metal and punk bar here yesterday (Friday). The "reception" was at a friend's house. Where he got wasted and demanded to listen to Sleep's Dopesmoker. After that, he listened to an old ska band's discography two times in a row. His wife got sick of it and they put on some old R&B, Wu-Tang Clan, and O.D.B. We ate mass pizza and had awesome snacks. Did you know that there's a MANGO tootsie roll pop???? Anyhow, here's what else I've been listening to lately...

Beck - Colors (this is actually quite good!!!!!!!!!)
Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal
Negative Reaction - Everything You Need... For Galactic Battle Adventures
Negative Reaciton - The Orion Chronicles
Inopexia - (a bunch of ep's and splits of theirs)
Wolfpack - Lycanthro Punk
Wolfpack - A New Dawn Fades
Orchiopexy - The Ultimate Putridity
Hellshock - Only the Dead Know the End of War
Hellshock - Shadows of the Afterworld
Faith & Void - Split LP
Gregorian Chant from Solesmes, France
Truckfighters - Gravity X
Sacrilege (UK) - Beyond the Realms of Madness (reissue)
Jimi Hendrix - Machine Gun: Live at the Fillmore East 12/31/1969 (First Show) - This was reissued last year - better than the first Band of Gypsys record by far...

I was quite surprised by the Ophis... it's not as bad as I was expecting, for some reason... meaning I was expecting something a bit boring... but this is ok... :)

Both are quite a disappointment. Although I didn't expect a lot from Ophis, this is maybe their dullest album. Bell Witch, well, it's a nice , very comfortable listen. I like it, but it's also far too safe in comparison to their debut album.

Nyseius - De Divinatione Daemonum. Very-hard-to-get-into black metal, but I'm trying, for a very long time...

Love how crunchy guitar sound pairs with organ. Was a bit sceptical they will be able to produce a decent follow-up for their first release. I was so wrong.

The Soundbyte - Solitary IV

http://teamrock.com/news/2017-06-26/the ... olitary-iv

Exclusive: Norwegian outfit The Soundbyte stream their new album Solitary IV in full ahead of its official release

Norwegian outfit The Soundbyte have made their new album Solitary IV available to stream in full with Prog.

The record will be released on June 30 via Temple Of Torturous – but Prog readers can listen to all seven track below.

Speaking about the new album guitarist Trond Engum exclusively tells Prog: “For us, Solitary IV is as much a monument as it is an album.

“It’s defined aesthetically by signature guitars, expressive drumming, contrasting string arrangements and raw vocal performances.

“It’s a fine balance between hope and the sound of an unavoidable dystopia as the songs alter between the intentionally discomforting and the soothingly disturbed.”

Joining Engum in the band is drummer Rune Hoemsne, with the pair previously playing together in experimental outfit The 3rd And The Mortal. Guest vocalists Tone Ase and Kirsti Huke also feature on the record.

Solitary IV is said to be built “almost entirely around Engum’s unique guitar and electronic sound, Hoemsne’s signature rhythms and haunting and ethereal vocal work” with an “off-kilter vision for sonic expression and paying painstaking attention to every detail.”

Long time no see! I'm quite fond of that project, the debut album is some nice dark trip-hop.

Nightbringer - Tara Damnata. I adore this band. The best thing that has happened to BM since Varg was gang-raped in prison...
Spiritus Mortis - self titled. Not bad, if not great trad doom.
Morbid Angel - Illud something...Not bad at all, a little bit goofy but I like the experimentation, a bald move. Fuck the haters, close-minded fucks.

Was gonna offer you my copy but looks like I already managed to offload it. I don't think I dislike it because I am close minded - I like various crossover metal/electronic bands. In fact, these days I don't listen to any metal that doesn't have some elements to not make it just the same boring thing over and over. And it does have some decent tracks. But are few guitarists who come up with stuff quite as sick as Trey and I feel he is wasted here. Altogether, I'm not really a hater, I just find 50% of the record too rubbish to ever consider playing it again.

Its a fair point though - if Devin Townsend made this record, press and fans would worship it.
