Post Why do you love doom?

No wrong answers, but what makes doom so god damned great.

I love it because it can inspire you and crush you at the same time.

Hm...I never really thought about that...
Well, the first Doom I ever heard was Tyranny's Bleak Vistae and I guess what I loved about it was that it is slow, not that innovative, pretty monotonous and despite all of this it hit me that the music wasn't about speed, innovation or how many riffs you have but the emphasis is put into the atmosphere and the certain "down" responses your mind takes while listening...I don't know if I can or did explain well enough...but yeah.

I think the most accurate answer here is: "Because."

Yeah, I agree. Just because. It just hits at the right place for me. Same reason I like anything. Because it's just awesome.

It's slow, it's brooding, it's mournful, it's bleak, it's pure emotion, it's perfect

Plenty of reasons.

Doom is archaic, it is not biased by rationality or cold logic.

Doom is not demystified by the modern world - at least for me.

Doom is not a short-dated "Zeitgeit"-issue.

It takes real musicianship to write a 20 minute long song - only in doom!

Because all my friends like it and I want to be cool like them.

Also music and atmosphere and all that.

There are several things that I like about doom metal, but versatility has to be the most important trait. Even if I'm tired of one end of the doom spectre, then there are still many other ends that play very different music both emotion- and atmosphere-wise. Also, whatever mood I'm in, there is some kind of doom that hits the right spot there and then. Besides the jack-of-all-trades status of the genre I'd say that doom metal has a powerful ability to express whatever one would ever want to say. From wild rage, to euphoria, to nihilistic depression. In my opinion, no other genre portray some of them as good as our own. A third reason doom metal excells can be summarized in one word: Heavyness! There is no metal worship like the one where you bang your head deep in reverence.

Hehe. I am probably more than a little biased when it comes to doom metal, but in my ears there is no better alternative.

Same thing here. Although I would say the riffs and the atmosphere.

'cause it is awe-inspiring, soul-crushing, heart-breaking, brain-twisting, ear-hurting and, above all, mother-fucking.

Motherfuckingness is the key.

Black Sabbath was one of the first metal bands I ever got into, and ever since I got into them, they've always been one of my very favorite bands. I was always disapointed that I couldn't find any similar sounding bands until, I got into doom, which rectified this. I also love the different types of atmospheres that can be found in doom: crushing, eerie, melancholic, evil, dreamy, etc. Far more interesting to me than other extreme types of metal where it seems all they care about is playing non stop blast beats at 200 bpm.
