Awesome Baphomet! I'll for sure! Found them by accident on youtube. One of those happy accidents.
Really glad with what I found. :beerchug:

Yo, those Satori Junk guys are top notch. I've been listening to their latest release all day, and I love it. It's like the ultimate mix of Electric Wizard's raw and psychedelic sound, with Abysmal Grief's gothic touches and melodic clean male vocals. I'm in love with the singer's voice and the horror film-like synths.

So I checked around 60% of your Epic Doom recommondations.

Here my preliminary ranking:
1. Count Raven - I love it!
2. Solitude Aeternus - very good, drums sound a little to eighties to me
3. All Soul's Day - yes, yes, yes!!!
4. Forsaken - I need another loop
5. Altar of Oblivion - production is a bit dull

Next on my checklist is Great Coven & The Temple.

Guys, what do I need to know about Candlemass?

Is it Epic Doom Metal as well?

Which Album(s) do you recommend if you had my taste (melodic guitars, slow, clean vocals (but not too Manowar-dramatic), good production)?

I think the first 4 Candlemass albums are considered classic.

Epicus Doomicus Metallicus, the debut, is an absolute gem.
Tales of Creation is another classic
Then I like very much the ambient/electro touch on From the 13th Sun

Epicus, Nightfall, Ancient Dreams and Tales of Creation are classics. I love the Candlemass album as well. Seven Silver Keys is amazing.

The Messiah Marcolin period is considered by the vast maojority as the epitome of the band's career, but if you tend to avoid "Manowar-esque vocals", as you say, I'd suggest you give a shot to Epicus first. It's really one of the very few debut albums that left a mark on the Metal history.

BTW, did you get the chance to listen to Forsaken's latest output, Pentateuch? Despite it's odd production job, I love it!

A worthwile addition to this thread, and also an answer to Revoked's request for interesting epic doom bands:

Wow Baphomet, I don't know if that's what Revoked was looking for but that certainly worked for me! Fucking awesome.

Yeah, it's pretty excellent, and for once, you can't really compare them to Candlemass; It's still epic doom imo, but it expands in another dimension.

@baphomet & mortuus: You guys are really great! Thanks for responding to my questions.

I started off listening to the latest stuff of Candlemass for now, but will check the classics later.

I had a few moments for myself with The Evil, but then my daughter asked me to turn it off.... She wanted to hear / see Egypt getting roasted by Russia :).

Oh, and by the way: Active since ten months now and thanks to you I haven't discovered so much good (for me new) music in the last 15 years.

Chapeau!

Cheers Revoked! :beerchug:
And listen to Baphomet and try Epicus. It's one of the best albums ever recorded by a metal band. It's still my favourite Candlemass album. No one mourns like Johan Längquist :;):

Epic doom metal newbies should check out Solstice asap.

Post subject:  Re: The General Recommendation Thread

I second the last guy's suggestion. Solstice's album Lamentations is pretty good shit and worth a listen! I honestly haven't heard anything after Lamentations, but it's so good I think it deserves to be mentioned.

And to everyone suggesting Epicus Doomicus Metallicus: YES! Please if you don't listen to anything else listen to this album! It's one of the best albums in the genre in my opinion. Solitude, Black Stone Wielder, and Under the Oak are especially amazing.
