You know The Nihilistc Front? I think they're putting out releases for quite some time now. Not that new, but worth a listen.

Same with Drug Honkey, they've been around for years, but their latest album puts me in awe:

another rec, something reaaly heavy would be Owlcrusher, not unique by any stretch, but it's super effective: http://owlcrusher.bandcamp.com/

As far as "real" music is concerned, something that you could more easilly tagged as classic Death doom, there're two bands I give all my support to: Norilsk and Suffer Yourself, my advice would be to skipped both bands' debuts and go right to their sophomore albums, which, in both case, are really more accomplished.

That Drug Honkey stuff is SOOOOOOO good. Thanks for the recommendation.

:beerchug:

btw, I was wondering if any of you was following some bandcamp user profiles, like the coolest guys outthere who as a coincidence happen to have good taste... I found myself following some advice from some of them who are arsed enough to write some thoughts about the albums they particularly liked and I made some nice finds indeed.... So, I was wondering....

I follow you, Mike, Kostas and the guy from Zaraza, just because these are the ones I found but I'd like more recommendations for bandcamp users with nice taste=))

I discovered this German band called Old Mother Hell.

Something between Epic and Trad Doom.

Check it out:

The upcoming Estrangement album seems to ambitiously embraced very diverse sources of influence. I'm very looking forward to hearing the whole of it!

btw, the painting is about Ivan the Terrible giving his son the last kiss after having killed him in a burst of anger...
That's why he's called Ivan The Terrible, and not Ivan The Cream Puff.

Has anyone here heard 'End of Green'? They're doom, alternative, goth and rock and despite that their debut is pretty good.

I love their first album! It reminds me a bit of Type O Negative and Left Hand Solution.

Messa has a new album coming out, and they just released a music video for one of the songs. Very beautiful track, a lot more morose and atmospheric than the rawer approach they had on the first album. I love the bluesy gospel vibes towards the end of the track, specifically at about 5:40 in. The video is very well made and suits the music perfectly.

Another interesting doom death project released on the same label that promotes Assumption:

Like Assumption, this one verges on the old school death metal to me... not bad, though.

mmh, there's still a nice brooding atmosphere, and then, that delicious guitar tone that I like so much, starting at 3'45"... :D

Guys, do you usually listen to new bands several times before making up your mind on them? or it is a matter of 2 -3 songs then you decide if their style your cup of tea or not?

A lot of bands that get good recommendations/review scores don't click with me at all. So I'm not sure, do I have to give those bands more playtime to appreciate the music or...

Although I'd say I'm a spontaneous kind of guy, I still an endorse most of the recs I gave without any remorse... But I like pretty much everything doomy, unless it's bad of course. :D

I tend to listen to the whole album... :)

Post subject:  Re: The General Recommendation Thread

@ Baphomet, that will be too much pressure on me, I will be always listening to new bands and force my self to like them!!, and the problem is that more than 80% of what I am listening I don't like. Not sure, is it me not giving the band proper listen coz most of the time they are in the background while I'm either working or doing stuff.

@ Merchant of Doom: The question is, how many times do you listen to the album as whole before deciding this is good or not? does it happen to like a band or release after listening to them/it several times rather than once?
