 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
The only beginning of a clue I have in mind is the look of the cover art, something in green/yellow shades, quite abstract. The cd was just a pile of recitatives topping some bland music, the guy reading some kind of poem of scandinavian fame. Very repelling stuff. It could have been released by Firebox or Prophecy or code666... edit: got it! https://www.metal-archives.com/albums/T ... rfe/220612

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
ok... I thought you were talking about a doom band... The Axis of Perdition are black metal, mainly... In fact, I seem to own Tenements (Of The Anointed Flesh) from 2011...

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
Yes, I thought of a doom band at first, but I was wrong. I used to have Deleted Scenes from the Transition Hospital. I can't find it now, must have sold it a while ago, I really don't see why I sold it, if I have!
edit: correction: I still have it alright!

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
I listened to "Watching from a distance" now completely. But I'm disapointed. One song sounds exactly as the other. I think there is not even one (!) guitar solo. No alteration in speed. Pretty boring. Nothing like Pallbearer at all - for me. Is the first Warning album better?

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
seconded! No really, Warning's fame is all due to the second album that still has something very genuinely mournful about it. Strangely enough, I connect it with a time when I was reading the fifth tome of Harry Potter! . It marks you for life! I'mnot totally sold to guitar solos, truth be told... Have you listened to The Wounded Kings? The Shadow over Atlantis and Visions in Bone are the ones I recommend.

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
Of course the Warning album has it's moments and I generally like the mournful sound. Also I don't need 10 solos per song. But at least a small lick or hook line, to be able to differentiate the songs from another is what I need.
One or two songs from Warning - great! A whole album - maybe as backgroud music.
Yes I tried the wounded Kings as well - but I need to look at my list at home why I sorted them out.

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
That original combo mixing old-style blues and funeral doom has just released one new song, more straightforward bedroom-ish doom this time, very much lofi and vintage as many here love/like/dislike it:

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
The debut is lovely. Then the sophomore, Throne of Void, is great, the next ones are more sophisticated, a bit too soft maybe. I'd recommend the first two for sure!

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
I bought the latest 3 albums as mp3 two days ago.... First impression is pretty good. But good to know the first albums are good as well.

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
I feel they had more grittiness in the beginning; but I must have all their albums but the latest. Because I think they're pretty excellent at what they do, but I gave up the idea of buying the last one because it's always a bit the same, overly melodic and too smooth.

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
Well yes, that is kind of what the reviews said which I read. That they have perfected their sound but lacking development.
But also the crtics said they are great anyway. I will need some loops to find my own opinion.

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
OMG guys, how you manage to find time to discover all those bands?
How you decide if this band for you? do you listen to few couple of minutes or a complete record to decide? do you check the lyrics or just focus on music?
additionally do you have any rituals when listening to new bands? or you just hit play while doing something else? like reading a book? cleaning the house, doing the kitchen or laundry :P
On another note, can you recommend to me the prime examples, the releases that by the book for:
* Stoner Doom
* Sludge Doom
I just want to listen to those so I know the typical style and sound of those sub genres..

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
I usually do something while listening to music. I work at home so that gives me plenty of time to expand my knowledge. ;)
To answer your question, these are some cool stuff, very representative of the style:
Stoner Doom:
Electric Wizard/ Supercoven Sons of Otis/ Templeball Ufomammut/ Snailking Yob/ The Illusion Of Motion
Sludge Doom
Grief/ Dismal Toadliquor/ The Hortator's Lament Fleshpress/ Pillars Abandon/ In Reality We Suffer

 Re: The General Recommendation Thread
I use my time im the car going to work and my sports sessions to discover new stuff.
Usually I try to hear the stuff on Y**Tube first just scrolling through. If I like voice an sound and so on I read some reviews on Metal.de a German fanpage to find out which is the best album. Then I zry to get it as a download on Ama**n.
Then I go for a few loops hearing the stuff in the car and at sports. Sometimes I read the lyrics as well because it helps me getting deeper into the songs.
