Many unfortunate things hindered my ability to explore more Doom, which has always been my weak area, regarding music. Since hearing it for the first time, in the early/mid 90s, I've discovered bands at an extremely slow rate. I'm seeking more things, similar to the ones I already like. Here's a list of those that I am already familiar with:

Candlemass, Mercy, Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, Katatonia, Anathema, Esoteric, Funeral, Thergothon, Skepticism, October Tide, Novembers Doom, Bethlehem, Mournful Congregation, Worship, Shape of Despair, Evoken, Mourning Beloveth, Doom:vs, Loss...

For the most part, I'm looking for Death/Doom or just Funeral Doom. Also, of the aforementioned bands, it's usually the first album (or first few) that really appeal to me, as opposed to the Goth style that many of them later adopted.

I'd prefer recommendations of older albums. However, if it's really good, I think I'm less biased against newer stuff, since my knowledge of Doom is so limited anyway.

Edit: By the way, I made a similar thread when I first joined, and I send my appreciation to whoever it was that recommended Shape of Despair. The first album really went over quite well.

Much appreciated. I shall explore all of this, over the course of the weekend.

Edit: Speaking of Doom:vs, what exactly is the ":vs" part? Seems like a strange band name.

That's what I thought, at first. But it doesn't make any sense, in this context.

I believe that in an interview he said it's actually "us" not "versus" but it's just stylized in the old medieval way when u was written as v. I might be incorrect in this though.

I somehow think that it's better to leave the interpretation upon the recepient.

I can stop your speculations by saying that eternal_sin666 has absolutely right. My friend met Johan (who is Doom:VS) and asked him about the name. The answer was that it was meant to be Doomus, but there's a Scandinavian cooperative selling groceries that is called Domus, with one 'o', so he couldn't call the band this. Instead it became Doom:VS, but still it pronounces just like Doomus.

My 2 favorite metal genres are black and death metal...I would prefer death/doom bands and funeral doom, but any kind is good with me
And raw or mellow would be fine, no preference.
