The Howling Void return with a new album which judging by the first song will be slow and wonderful=)))

p.s. just noticed that this embedding thing reveals the song lengths even when they are hidden in the actual bandcamp page, cool=)

Completely lost track of them after their first two releases. I'll give it a try, thanks for the heads up!

It doesn't click with me... , find it too languid, vapid...

Languid is cool for funeral doom, no=)? It's nice return to roots but with more emphasis on the prolonged guitar lines than on keyboards as was in the early albums, which is a plus for me=)

I think it's the towering, soaring leads of the first couple of albums I miss. It sounds like more blurred, a bit muffled now, less epic at any rate.

Nice funeral doom from New Zealand - https://gravewardsdoom.bandcamp.com/album/demo-mmxviii

And if you want another simple but nice demo this type with tasteful blackish vocals - check https://svavelh.bandcamp.com/album/2019

good call on this one, nicely trudging with a good, genuine sense of funeral sound.

First track is a bit too fast for FD... but I didn't listen to it in its entirety... because I found it boring... :p

I think the other albums of Destroyer of Light are way too happy, but this two song EP is excellent, mournful trad doom:

I know how hopeless that sounds, but could you, blokes, recommend something like (EARLY) Anathema (Darren White era)?
I already enjoy such bands like Sculpture and Before the Rain. Does anyone know similar bands? Guitar based, melodic and with that spacious (I don’t know how to express it more precise) sound, typical for the 90’s.

Thanks a lot!

You can check Asphodelus - it's a mixture between early Anathema and Katatonia...

I don't think Before the Rain death doom period resembles Anathema Serenades...

Enchantment come close, no?

The grunts actually annoy me more for some reason...

Maybe this is somewhat relevant to you. Ryan Unks (from Human Quena Orchestra) has another band: "love of the farthest". It does not sound like HQO at all (HQO... :inlove:) - but it's such a pleasant droney listen.

Another recommendation request:

Some Guitar-oriented Funeral doom like Mournful Congregation or Funeral (early of course).
Minimum keyboards - maximum guitars (other string or woodwind instruments are welcome too).

Thanks!

Post subject:  Re: The General Recommendation Thread

I'm not terribly familiar with Funeral or Mournful congregation but here are some suggestions for melodic stuff:

Who dies in siberian slush - intimate death experience
https://whodiesinsiberianslush.bandcamp ... experience
(Melodic funeral doom with a trombone, flute and amazing vocals)

Drown - Unsleep
https://markovsoroka.bandcamp.com/album/unsleep

Slow - Oceans
https://slowdooom.bandcamp.com/album/v-oceans

Frowning - Extinct
https://frowning.bandcamp.com/album/extinct

Fvnerals - Wounds
https://fvnerals.bandcamp.com/album/wounds
(nice female vocals - "Antlers" is my favourite song)

Abstract Spirit - Liquid Dimensions Change
https://solitudeproductions.bandcamp.co ... ons-change
(check out "Ruined")

Maybe this as well:

Eye of solitude - Cenotaph
https://eyeofsolitude.bandcamp.com/album/cenotaph

Bell Witch - Mirror Reaper
