Black doom at its best.

Pity that the follow up went back to the purely black metal territory...

I found one member who's in fact no less than Zaraza's mastermind. I'm glad he comments pretty much every album he gives a listen to; I've found out some cool stuff on his list:

Shame about the clean vocals... totally out of tune... and the wanky acoustic guitar... ruined it for me.

The acoustic parts suck, I agree, but the clean vocals do not really bother me=)

Coltsblood and Un, who both released a pretty great full lengths recently, have put out a very nice split together:

Must say I like it! The Coldblood seems to drags in the beginning, but once in the right mood, it flows just right!

The Sabbathian (Chad Davis of Hour of 13, etc.) released their debut last month, which features Liv Kristine (Theatre of Tragedy, etc.):

This album sounds nothing like I was expecting it to. I was expecting some bland occult vanilla doom rock like Blood Ceremony... but this album almost sounds more like black metal than doom a lot of the time. I love her vocals too, very ethereal and beautiful. The way the riffs and her voice blend makes me think of early 90's gothic metal, when it still sounded raw and had some grit to it. What a pleasant surprise.

It sounds like an edgier, fuzzier Theatre of Tragedy... maybe it's Kristine's voice... nice one, although I'm not a fan of the fuzzy guitar... :)

Spüolus used to make either nice yet standard black/doom or some ambient stuff.

Now a new album is out, a single song with less black and more funeral, weird vocals and effects scattered throughout. It could be quite good though it feels kinda disjointed due to the multiple weird parts which ruin the mood at times... Still worth hearing=)

I agree that the clean vocals can be weird, but funny thing is that there are not the only thing that is weird as hell here. Pity as overall the album is pretty good. And I am really surprised how different this new Spüolus' album is from the past releases and what's behind this new direction...

Apart from that here is some nice and rawish funereal doom from New Zealand I've been listening to lately:
