I do not think there is something really resembling early Funeral unfortunately.
As for MC and guitar driven funeral doom - you can also try Tyranny, Longing for Dawn, Worship, Mistress of the Dead, Hierophant, Funeral Moth - all of them are very guitar driven, but none of them really comes close to the extremely versatile and riff based sound of MC)
Also check Profetus's EP "As All Seasons Die" - there is a nice guest appearance from the MC's guitarist on one of the songs.

I'm already familiar with this band. It seems like I should be enjoying it, but brass instuments is a dealbreaker for me. It reminds me of 19th century classical music which I simply cannot digest. I'm a baroque kind of guy.
I'll chesk out the rest !
klamerin Thanks !

Yeah, that's the problem. The closest band to MC (sound wise) would be Lone Wanderer. But they lack these wonderful melodies and guitar solos that make MC what it is. I mean MC without the melodies is like french fries without salt :-)

The new album from Uur (formerly known as Dresden/Leningrad) is pretty fantastic. Melodic traditional doom in vein of Warning, Pallbearer, The Temple, etc.

Yes, it's a remarkable album. I've try to promote it a bit in the "currently listening to "thread. It's in my 2019 top five so far, and I'm confident it'll stay there till the end of the year.

I agree it's a pretty awesome album if you give it enough time. At first I was not convinced but baphomet's constant praise of this made me revisit it multiple times and it grew on me quite remarkably=)

Re: The General Recommendation Thread
The latest of Our Survival Depends On Us is really good; On their first albums, their songs were a bit clumsy, perhaps too ambitious for the guy's talents; but they improved. It's too bad the opening song isn't on par with the strength of the rest. My only last concerns are about the lead singer, his cleaner tones aren't super convincing...
I'm loving this new album, 1692, by Frayle, a band I hadn't heard of until today. Their style is a mix of Sabbath-doom with a Sleep-like guitar wall of sound and vocals that remind me of Portishead. Very very nice.

best thing I've heard in a long time, female fronted trad-ish doom. not what you'd think based on the description, tho. give it a go! https://pontedeldiavolo666.bandcamp.com/
