I got into doom in my teens when I was depressed like most teens are. I was a metalhead and was happy to find metal music that was melancholic. Doom is still my favourite subgenre, I love the atmosphere it creates. Its great mood music.

I got into doom through Sabbath. Somewhere I saw them classified as doom metal, I did a search, found this site, etc. I like it because I like music that is heavy, yet not fast. Doom fits into that nicely

...ok..so I got into doom as a good friend of mine became obsessed with My Dying Bride...I was formally more into gothic, but ever since I heard My Dying Bride and Virgin Black, something changed

I passed days looking for answers in this topic, but for a long time anyone seems interested in giving some ideas about what made them listening to doom, and funeral doom. What made me listening to doom? Well, in the last year of the 80's i was very interested in death metal. Candlemass and Trouble, and even Saint Vitus doesn't interested me a lot. But the first album of Cathedral, and the masterpiece of Thergothon had opened my eyes to doom. The great albuns of MDB, and Anathema in the beginning of the 90's had a great impact in me, and were very important in my path, but i was always lookind to a slower and more depressive doom metal. I was looking for funeral doom, where i feel at home.

When I was younger, I didn't know what kind of music I like. At the time, I thought Slayer and Marduk are cool because they're so fast and brutal. I was wrong. I started to notice that every time I heard a sad note or slower rhythm, I began to like it more and more.
My first step into Doom Metal was probably when I heard My Dying Bride's "Symphonaire Infernus et Spera Empyrium" - it fucking blew me away.
It is now that I realize that I don't care how fast or how technical one is with an instrument, I care about how much effort and feelings has been put into music. Doom Metal is all about that: this music style is totally on its own, allowing musicians to explore musical landscapes freely and to play what they want to play. Emotions and feelings give life to the music. Doom Metal bands dare to be different - therefore, original.
This could have sounded a bit cheesy but I've never been very good at writing.
