Post My Dying Bride have completed a new album (2019)

It is complete! The new album from My Dying Bride! It has taken quite some time to put together but it is now finished and is with Nuclear Blast as I write this. There is no release date as yet but rest assured we will let you know once we find out. This album is a luxurious journey into a realm only MDB know how to create. It has the most lavish production of any of our past offerings and the sound is utterly stunning; aggressive, beautiful and layered with harmonic melancholy like never before. There is beauty here with slender moments of delicate hope enriched with violins and cello and the stunning voice of special guest Lindy-Fay Hella from Wardruna. And there is utter madness and anger with visceral death metal vocals lending a fearful edge to this dramatic opus. You will not be disappointed!! Cheers, Aaron.

They do seem quite excited by the result.

I was kinda hoping that the recent family tragedy of Aaron will be conveyed into the next album, but the recent shot of their Metal Hammer interview that said "Expect: A catchier and easier-to-digest twist on their riff-driven doom metal stylings" got me worried a lot =(

that's the standard excited look for doom metallers from/in yorkshire. I checked on wikipedia.

oh, come on! it's MDB... "catchy" means "bring me victory" or so. it's not like they'll turn into alestorm or sabaton! :D

Well, exactly, a full album in the vein of "bring me victory" would be awful for sure=/

:( I guess MDB can't please everybody... I'd welcome an album with more "bring me victory"s \m/ although I admit that's not the style they're mostly known and appreciated for.

I must say I can't rely to this. Hoping that a personal tragedy would make a piece music more satisfying is a bit cynical...

That being said, I do feel this kind of experience fills you with positive thoughts on the contrary; hope and love must have been his most essential emotions during those difficult times.

The only doom project I know of that is driven by love is Mistress of the Dead, but if it's totally bleak, the circumstances are also totally different (if I am not mistaken Aaron's daughter is recovering from her disease..)

Could be cynical yes, but that's how I see it=) We are in the business of misery here, so for me any possible inspiration that could lead to bleaker music is welcome. That's not to say I welcome personal tragedy, but if it is already there, as the saying goes - no crisis should go to waste=)

Now you just have to hope that she'll die eventually.... I suppose this could put Aaron in such negative dispositions that he'd be all up for some bleaker doom. :O

That could be a interesting plot for a book: the fan who wishes more genuine negative emotions in his music would do everything he can to put his favourite band in the most miserable state of mind...

Now that's some heavy, heavy twisting of words - nowhere did I imply I hope for personal tragedies=)

But I see absolutely nothing wrong in hoping somebody's dark emotions find themselves in his music.

The problem I have with this way of looking at things is that you can't separate the cause and the effect. Especially in this particular case where the details of the personal wrenching experience have been revealed.

I wouldn't be bothered to just observe after the fact that indeed a real-life crisis kind of intensified the music, if such is the case, but knowing what happened to him, I can't just see this as a potential source for a more fruitful inspiration, if you see what I mean; it's like comparing his pain and my pleasure - I would consider my pleasure must step aside before his pain and I would just wait and see.

I think doom metal is dancing on a razorblade. Your personal experiences have to be sad enough to make you create it, but not even so sad that you loose all your energy. Changing negative thoughts into positive things needs power. If these negative thoughts are too negative you lack this power, in the worst case for the rest of your life. Catastrophees you deeply hate will never be dealed with again or being put into art. Some cadavers have to stay buried, and it is just their number that differs from person to person.

The input in music a personal sad experience can have also depends on the context of creation: a one-man project won't deal with it the same way a band can. It's a matter of focus and inner thoughts that can't always be shared.
That's why not only I can't expect Aaron to "take advantage" of his own distressful situation, but also that after all, I don't expect this one peculiar situation to have a decisive influence on a whole band of individuals.
Personal issues are better dealt with on a personal level, so it seems to me.
