Post Looking for evocative music to listen to while reading

I'm looking specifically for something belonging to the Doom spectrum, for instance similar to Goatpsalm/ Downstream.

It should be doomy music with a strong cinematic feel, not only a background sound, but something with flesh, and enough strong parts to eventually draw you out of your reading for a moment; something that would be both calming and captivating.

I listen to much ambient doom too in those reading pauses that require my concentration, like UDOM, Mistress of The Dead, Nortt, but I'm looking now for something with a bit more dynamics... Skepticism would be also a good choice that'd fit the request...

Any original ideas?

Not original, but I've always found Mournful Congregation to be fantastic reading music.

Try A Sickness Unto Death, their latest album "Beyond" is amazing heartbreaking music for the heartbroken...

Also, you can never miss with Darkher. Mesmerizing on every level. But you already know that :-)

On second thought, Arcane Voidsplitter is too atmo, and lacks the dynamics I'm after.
A Sickness Unto death is far too "present". I couldn't read on this album!

The Lotus Thief
Instrumental stuff like End Name and Steny Lda or Cold Body Radiation.
Try also the latest from Klimt 1918. A massive album of hazy, gentle and beautiful shoegaze rock.
Oh, of course, The Angelic process - Weighing souls with sand.

The first thing to come to mind is Dolorian's self-titled album, though I know you are already familiar with it.

Spoiler: show

The artificial sounding instrumentation of Fungoid Stream was always a turn-off for me, but the atmosphere is definitely on-point and they do a good job of the sleepy, ambient approach to funeral doom.

Spoiler: show

Stepping a bit outside of doom, I would very highly recommend Year of No Light's Ausserwelt. Very ambient/drone infused post-metal, beautiful stuff.

Spoiler: show

Meeting somewhere between drone metal and post-metal is the one and only album from Vøid. I know I've mentioned them before and others weren't quite as enthusiastic about them as I was. That being said, they are definitely a go-to for me when I'm looking for more ambient sounding doom that still has some stuff going on. I could seeing them being good to read to.

Spoiler: show

I'd recommend the Aelter/Wolvserpent collective. And that old favourite, Shape Of Despair.

the more ambient Ankhagram albums are also a good choice, imo...

I knew this band, Wolvserpent, but I hadn't think about it, it's a fitting rec, cheers!
