Virgin Black got screwed by the label and I suppose there's some stupid contract issue that doesn't let them publish the album elsewhere (and they obviously don't want to deal with the same guys anymore).

That totally sucks! I've been a fan of them since the late 90's and hate to hear that. :(

I'm actually pretty excited about the new Pantheist release, out September.

I like the cover art plus the decision to bring back the umlaut in the band name, in accordance to the supposedly bringing back the style back to the funeral doom roots. Only the song titles suck a lot, truly awful.

The first teaser is nice, the vocals seem pretty good, and Kostas' screams improved quite a lot (the weakest point in his vocals, imo).

Still looking forward to a new record by The Wizar'd based on this Facebook post well over 6 months old at this point:

Haha, wishful thinking.
Other than that, this is really the only album I'm looking forward to buying right now, which comes out this month actually:

I love the vibrant, vintage guitar tone. The whole thing hearkens back to the period in the late 70's when progressive rock, folk rock and heavy metal was mingling together, creating a uniquely British sound. Thin Lizzian heavy metal with a good touch of Wishbone Ash.

Sounds good. The chanting parts I didn't mind personally.
Why do you say the song titles suck? Seems like a strange complaint.

Well, it's a minor complaint for sure, but they are indeed bad and do not evoke any kind of feeling (and I usually think that all aspects of an album should be involved in building some kind of atmosphere)

Surely the lyrics are the true deciding factor in whether the song titles evoke or do not evoke an atmosphere since the meaning of a song title relies almost entirely on the lyrical content it gift-wraps?

Post Re: Most anticipated releases

Well, personally I've shifted quite a lot on this. In times past I used to consider the lyrics as one of the most defining factors.

Nowadays, while listening to doom I pretty much ignore the lyrics and usually the song titles and even the song divisions themselves. So the album visual presentation gives me the initial atmosphere which is then extended by the music. And I'm counting on the song title to give me a sense of what's to come, but the lyrics have become far too distracting for me to follow, so I've abandoned them in order to immerse more fully in the music=)

I'm not claiming it's the best approach=)))

Post Re: Most anticipated releases

That's really interesting. I've never quite considered how I feel myself about the visual aesthetic of an album, including the song titles, and how it impacts my feelings before I hear the album. I can see how song titles would influence how I judge the album before I buy it and hear it.

I suppose for me it would play some small part in how I judge it before hearing it. How could they not? For example, if I grab a new album and see some song titles with really idiotic song titles it probably bothers me. I still feel that way about many Manowar albums even though I love them, they always mix songs dealing with epic, fantasy or philosophical themes in with cartoonish songs about all men playing on 10 or fighting the world.

Not sure about the video with its stereotypical imagery, but I must confess I quite liked the "song"... :p

The song is great indeed, much better than expected, plus they delivered on the "back to funeral doom" promise=)))
