Quick introductory interview.

Interview with Mountaris.
1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

Mountaris was the brainchild of Casey Scott, Anthony Menheere and Dean French that began late 2013 in Geelong - Australia, to be later joined by Rhys Barnes and Max Payne. Originally intended to be a fairly straightforward entry into the post-metal movement Mountaris’ sound has changed towards something more unique and original over the past 3.5 years as a band. ‘Desolate’ was the first song written as a band, which features on the debut Desolate EP through Transcending Records. That song, invoking doom-laden riffs, shoegaze and moments of psychedelia became the trademark sound of the band.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?

Doom metal is what the band’s sound naturally lent itself towards over time. However, Mountaris’ sound is more accurately defined as a blend of shoegaze/metal-gaze and doom metal, with progressive elements and moments of avante garde weirdness. Blurring the lines of what doom is, by involving aspects of other musical styles, is what gives Mountaris its unique sound. It is difficult to compare Mountaris’ sound with others, but there are moments that fans of Alcest, Electric Wizard and Intronaut would enjoy.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

Our best moment was getting signed by Transcending Records in the US. Our music found some support in Australia, but most people did not understand it. Being signed with Transcending Records helps our music reach a much wider audience.

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

Alcest, Electric Wizard and Intronaut.

5. What are your plans for the near future?

To see how the EP goes and to possibly write or record more music.

6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.

Check out Transcending Records and check out our CD!
