Quick introductory interview.

Interview with Kalmo.
1. Who are you and how did the band get started?

Kalmo is a Finnish doom metal band. The band is one man's project to create the darkest doom metal you can find. Kalmo has been around for about five years, and started as a creative project for my own amusement as I was experimenting with sinister sounds and noises. The first song was released on Soundcloud some two years ago. Since then, Kalmo has further evolved to find its own tone and style.

2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?

Doom has been close to my dark heart since the day I first heard Celtic Frost’s Mini LP Morbid Tales.

The roots of Kalmo’s doom style are solidly in the soil fertilised by Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Triptykon. There are spices from Vorum, Slayer, Death Breath and Candlemass too. The lyrics are in Finnish and they find their inspiration from Christian hell mythodology, the inevitably doomed future of human kind and dark visions of human mind.

3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?

Absolutely the first ever released Kalmo doom music video for the song Elävä vainaa. I was so excited about how well it turned out. It has been published by a few channels online and I am continuously looking for new channels for spreading the message.

The video is also available in Full HD at https://kalmo.fi/ev

4. Which three bands most influenced you?

I will break the rule and combine the master’s bands in one and then name two more. Tom G. Warrior is one of my musical idols and thus Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and Triptykon are on the top of my list. Then second the Finnish death metal band Vorum. Very aggressive with excellent sounds. Listen for example opening track of Grim Death Awaits. Third one is Candlemass, especially the first re-union era material.

5. What are your plans for the near future?

The plans are quite clear. Create 3..5 new songs get them ready for recording and produce an album. I estimate that it will take a year or two to get it done. In the meantime I hope be able to produce two or three doom metal music videos. Kalmo also has a t-shirt shop launched. In the shop you find Kalmo band t-shirts and other doom style t-shirts. Hopefully there will be some customers too in the near future! I have not advertised the shop so much yet as I am focusing more on creating new songs. Link to Kalmo store https://store.kalmo.fi/

6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.

We all are doomed! m/
