|Quick Introductory Interview.|
|1. Who are you and how did the band get started?
Ortega is a four-piece sludge/doom collective from the North of The Netherlands. Four men telling a tale of the sea, musically depicted in a broad and visual manner. Ortega came together in 2007 after a breakup of a previous hardcore band. The remaining members wanted to go on as a doom/sludge band.
The members are:
Richard – Guitar/Vocals
Alex – Guitar
Frank – Bass
Sven - Drums
2. Why did you choose Doom, and how would you describe your style?
We basically wanted to start a band like Neurosis and so Ortega was born. Ortega's sound is best described as dark metal balanced with spheric soundscapes, brought together with slow and heavy riffs.
3. What would you consider to be the high point of your career so far?
At this moment we’d say the high points were playing with great bands and meeting amazing people who helped us out and/or supported us in any other way.
4. Which three bands most influenced you?
Neurosis, Isis, Cult of Luna
5. What are your plans for the near future?
At this moment we are very thrilled Aesthetic Death recently reissued our debut album ‘1634’ which is now available. In October there’s a vinyl version of our ep "A Flame Never Rises On Its Own " coming up on Badger Records. We also recently finished a new track which will be released as a limited cassette, and after that on vinyl for a split release with our friends of Terzij de Horde. We’re planning on doing more shows with the focus on playing outside of the Netherlands.
6. If there is anything you would like to add, the last words are yours.
At the moment I don't have anything else to add.
