Stabat Mater

Finland - Active.

Description

Funeral Doom

A band only known by a select few people, Stabat Mater, got high underground acclaim for their split with fellow underground legends Worship. While Worship became better known Stabat Mater represents the same high quality tortured suicidal funeral doom. Dark, twisted, slow beyond reason and utterly depressive. Stabat Mater is one of the better acts out there, and does not deserve to remain so unknown as they have been to this date. Only releasing on vinyl has however added to their mystique and is another reason why this band remains largely unknown. They can also be described as unhuman and sadistic Funeral Doom.

Misc

The tape 'Church of the Flagellation' is a four-way split between Stabat Mater, Bunkur, Malasangre and The Sad Sun. The split 'Crushing The Holy Trinity' was released on 3xLP and 3xCD and is a split between Clandestine Blaze, Deathspell Omega, Mgla, Exordium, Musta Surma and Stabat Mater.

There is an unofficial CDr which the band has handed out to a select few friends of the band. If you weren't one of the lucky ones, dispair not as all the tracks will be released on other releases. Actually one of the tracks is 'Give Them pain' from their split with Worship. The bands only member, Mikko Aspa, also plays in the sludge/doom band Fleshpress, the black metal band Clandestine Blaze and the satanic black metal band Deathspell Omega.
