Katatonia

Sweden - Active.

Description

Black/Doom, Gothic/Doom

Katatonia began life as a blackened Paradise Lost clone. Their second album Brave Murder Day saw them reinvent the concept of doom/death. The bands later releases show them losing their metallic sound in favor of a Gothic/depressive rock style. Fans of Rapture, Slumber and Daylight Dies would find interest in their early-mid periods.

Misc

On 'Brave Murder Day' and 'Sounds of Decay' the vocal work was done by Opeth vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt.

The later Katatonia albums, starting with Last Fair Deal Gone Down are not really doom metal and by some, not even considered metal at all. They are however just as depressive and melancholic as before.

Jonas Renkse and Fredrik Norrman also had a side project known as October Tide where they basically make albums in the vein of Brave Murder Day.

Anders also plays in Diabolical Masquerade.

Both Anders and Jonas are also involved in Bloodbath, an old school death metal project featuring members from several other infamous metal bands.
