Progressive Doom Although this Norwegian group is more well-known for the intense Progressive Metal of their most recent material, Madder Mortem have found themselves dipping into Doom Metal at plenty of points throughout their career. The band's first album, Mercury, is a relaxed, dreamy mix of Atmospheric Doom and Progressive Metal that sounds considerably close to early The 3rd and the Mortal. The later albums are heavier and a bit more abrasive, though sections of crushing Doom riffs can be found scattered throughout the mix. The band is perhaps mostly known for the intense lead singing of vocalist Agnete M. Kirkevaag, whose voice ranges from gentle alto croons to belted out lines that border on screams. |
